The Thing Most People Do Wrong When Planting a Tree

The thing fantastic four, the thing most people do wrong right, the thing most people do wrong when planting tomatoes, the thing most people do wrong when planting amaryllis, the thing most people do wrong when planting potatoes, the thing most people do wrong when you put, the thing most people do wrong when planting an avocado, the thing most people do wrong when planting a tree, the thing monster truck, the thing most people experience, the thing cast, just the thing columbia sc, the thing most people do wrong quotes, the thing most people do wrong when planting seeds, the thing most people do wrong when planting arborvitae, the thing about pam, the thing most people are good.

This legend is part of Home Tips, CNET's collection of practical advice for sketch the most out of your home, inside and out.

Whether you want to plant trees for environmental reasons or just to spruce up your yard, a good way to start is by researching the specific devises of the trees in mind. Some need more waters, some less. Some thrive in a variety of climates, while some are more particular. Some need full sun, once others do best with a little bit of shelter.

No commercial what type of tree you're planting, however, there are two simple steps in the procedure that most people miss, even though they're crucial to giving your leafy friends their best shot at taking root. Spoiler alert: It all comes down to how you dig the hole. For more tips, read the bshining spot to put your houseplants to keep them alivehow to begin a garden, and how to grow vegetables deprived of a backyard.

When you're digging a hole to plant your tree, the temptation is to dig it in the pretty of most holes: you know, a circle. The root ball is named a "ball" for a reason, after all. It all seems to make sense.

But -- and this is especially true if your soil is clay-heavy -- if you plant trees in a bowl-shaped hole, they can simply treat it like an actual bowl. Basically, their roots expand within the soft soil you use to back-fill the hole, but when they meet the harder plinitiates of the hole, they follow the shape, circling about one another and eventually becoming root-bound.

This can stunt the tree's growth or even lead it to a premature end. (RIP to the serviceberry tree I planted in my days of ignorance.)

Instead, do two things:

1. Dig a square-shaped hole.

2. Leave a small hill on the bottom of the hole for the root ball to rest on. The pretty will guide the roots outward, thanks to the corners of the square, and downward at an angle, thanks to the slope at the bottom of the hole.

Back-fill the hole with soft soil, and thoroughly soak the whole area, so the roots get to work exploring their new environs. Then let nature take its course. If you picked the bshining tree for the right place -- and as long as you don't get unlucky with some pesky bacterial infection (knock on wood) -- the tree must make itself at home and make your home all the more pretty along the way.

Privacy adds unexperienced dimension to the competition and to your browser exclusive.

Apple has made privacy a top priority in all of its products, including its Safari browser. For the Brave browser, privacy is a core goal, and Mozilla and Microsoft are touting privacy as a way to differentiate their browsers from Google Chrome. One quick way to give yourself a privacy boost across all of the browsers fuzz here is by changing the default search engine. For instance, try the privacy-focused search engine DuckDuckGo. Although its scrutinize results may not be quite as useful or deep as Google's, DuckDuckGo is still pretty close -- and it's long been favored by the privacy-minded for its refusal to track user searches.

Other universal options that can boost your privacy included disabling your browser's location tracking and search engine autocomplete features, turning off password autofills and regularly deleting your browsing history. Tech tends to be one of the top gifts during the holiday shopping season, and Apple is one of the most popular brands plus them. The company sold $71.6 billion worth of iPhones last year, enough to be a Fortune 50 custom on its own. So, what happens when that interrogate collapses?

Apple on Thursday will be reporting its great fiscal quarter earnings, covering sales during the just-ended holiday shopping season. And it's likely to be rough.

Phone and computer manufacturers have been seeing sales drop precipitously from their pandemic highs, and while the holidays tend to be a common time to buy tech devices, this past holiday shopping season isn't shaping up to have been spacious. Smartphone shipments around the world dropped a record 18% from the year prior, according to surveys from IDC, the largest-ever decline for the diligence. PC shipments, meanwhile, dropped an even more dramatic 28% from the prior year.

Now, Apple watchers are about to learn what that employing for the iPhone and the Mac. Analysts on denotes are already projecting profits to fall to $1.94 per fraction, according to surveys published by Yahoo Finance, down more than 7% from the same time a year ago. Sales, meanwhile, are expected to fall to about $121.6 billion, down nearly 2%.

None of this is much of a surprise, since Apple and Wall Street analysts alike have been warning near production slowdowns in China, driven by COVID-19 lockdowns that above late last year. That many would-be iPhone 14 Pro owners in some to spend more time waiting or hunting for their devices, which start at $999 (£1,099, AU$1,749). Here at CNET, we heard so many land needed help finding them that we published a run for how to find one amid the many supply shortages.

Now that buying an iPhone is as easy as buying philosophize from Apple and having it shipped the next day, the interrogate analysts and investors are asking is whether the land who couldn't buy an iPhone earlier waited, or whether they gave up and went with a competitor.

"December Pain = March Gain?" Evercore analyst Amit Daryanani said in a note to investors Monday. Aside from readily found supplies, Evercore also said data near luxury goods sales in China suggested that many people's fears of a larger recession this year may have been overblown. "The month of January and onwards ought to be stronger than current given that the unmet demand."

Apple didn't respond to a interrogate for comment ahead of its earnings.

Apple released new laptop and desktop computers while the holiday shopping season.

CNET/Lori Grunin

If land buy enough iPhones to power Apple through economic uncertainty, industry watchers wonder what will happen to the company's workforce. So far, nearly every tech giant has instituted layoffs, blaming in part a frenetic hiring spree during the pandemic.

Apple, for its part, has frozen hiring in some areas, and Apple CEO Tim Cook has volunteered to reduce his potential future compensation.

Analysts so far don't seem entailed that Apple may be in a similar position as Amazon, which eliminated 18,000 jobs, Microsoft, which laid off 10000, or Meta and Google, which together laid off an binary 23,000. All told, an estimated 235,596 people lost their jobs across tech in the past year, according to Layoffs.fyi, an industry tracker.

"We see tremendous value in the Apple ecosystem and its command to monetize its user base," Oppenheimer analysts wrote in a note late last year, while discussing how supply shortages may hurt Apple's financials for the spiteful term. In Wall Street speak, that means they absorb Apple will find ways to make more money from land who already buy its products, such as through its Apple TV Plus subscription service, which costs $7 a month. "Our long-term bullish view on Apple is unchanged."

The English (2022)

Gripping Western drama series The English stars Emily Blunt and Chaske Spencer as an unlikely duo traveling across a treacherous landscape. The first episode of the limited series presents some unpleasant characters and reveals a bit of what motivates both protagonists -- Blunt's aristocratic Englishwoman and Spencer's Pawnee ex-cavalry scout -- to quit in the face of danger. Gorgeous visuals and edifying acting make the English worth a binge.

Con man Marius walks free from jail, only to be hunted by the gangster he once robbed. So, he assumes the identity of his cell mate Pete and walks back into the lives of Pete's estranged family, who are none the wiser. The twists and dicey situations will carry you above the addictive episodes as quickly as Pete pulls his cons.

As We See It (2022)

A newer entry to Prime Video, As We See It earns a spot among its best shows. Starring three actors who identify as autistic, this staunch series follows young adults on the autism spectrum as they navigate jobs, manager friends and finding love. Neurotypical actors usually play autistic characters on veil, so the casting sets this one apart. It's also heartfelt, funny and poignant, with well-rounded characters you'll want to root for. I could let the show's sparkling Metacritic score speak for itself -- but whatever convinces you, this ensures to be your next watch.

Amazon Prime Video

The Underground Railroad (2021)

Sublime filmmaker Barry Jenkins (Moonlight) takes on adapting Colson Whitehead's recent The Underground Railroad into a powerful 10-episode series. Set in the southern US during the 1800s, the fictional story follows Blacks attempting to escape from slavery via a network of hidden tracks and tunnels. Tapping magical realism and a superb cast including Thuso Mbedu and William Jackson Harper, The Underground Railroad is an emotional and chilling triumph.

Amazon Studios

Informer (2018)

This appealing British series is about, yes, an informer and the sad territory involved in coercing someone to take on the unsafe gig. Paddy Considine (who now has a gig on the Game of Thrones prequel) stars as DS Gabe Waters, a counterterrorism officer tasked with infiltrating a far-right fight in West Yorkshire. Partnered with an excellent Bel Powley (The Morning Show, The King of Staten Island) as the young and inquisitive DC Holly Morten, he attempts to bring British Pakistani Raza (Nabhaan Rizwan) on board to repeat information about a possible terrorist attack. A provocative thriller that will keep you on your toes.

Based on Dungeons & Dragons web series Critical Role (you don't have to be unique with that to enjoy this show), The Legend of Vox Machina sees its protagonists go from bodies broke bar-hoppers to accepting a mission to stop evil brewing in Exandria. We're further introduced to the characters in a musical number that occurs near halfway through the first episode. That's right, I said musical number. But you'll be down for every element this show throws at you. Why would anyone resolve these misfits to fight for the kingdom? "Well... they do have a bear," one royal decision-maker concedes.

The Kids in the Hall (2022—)

Prime Video has resurrected The Kids in the Hall, the Emmy-nominated Canadian attracting comedy show that originally ran from 1988 to 1995. (By "resurrects," I mean the show literally exhumes members of the comedy people from a grave they were buried in at the end of the current show. That's just the beginning of the fun.)  Follow the comedians as they freak out over mislabeled desserts, fight over imaginary love interests and write Earth's last fax. But be warned: Some of these sketches are highly NSFW.
