The original Apple AirPods Pro and the new AirPods Pro 2 are with the most popular earbuds on the market, with both earning Editors Choice Awards. If you're here, you probably already own the AirPods Pro or the AirPods Pro 2nd Generation and are looking for a case to protecting your investment or perhaps another accessory, of which there are many. While the AirPods Pro are in fact accessories, like other popular Apple products, they've created a cottage manufacturing of companion accessories, including ones that allow you to customize your AirPods Pro earbuds for workouts, adventure, air travel and more.

The AirPods Pro 2 are the same size as the unusual AirPods Pro. However, there are some small differences, the most valuable of which are the microphone configuration on the buds and a built-in speaker in the AirPods Pro 2's charging case that emits a sonar-like soundless when tracking the buds in the Find My app. Also, there's now a spot on the AirPods Pro 2's case to keep a lanyard.

While cases designed for the original AirPods Pro case will fit the AirPods Pro 2 just fine, a case specifically planned for the AirPods Pro 2 will have cutouts for the speaker port and lanyard loop. If you want a waterproof case for your AirPods 2 (or AirPods Pro), those tend to cloak all the ports. You can buy a simple, financial plan case made of silicone rubber that provides decent protection necessity you drop your case. Or you can buy fancier cases, some even made of leather, that give your AirPods case a more premium look at what time also providing protection.

Here's a look at CNET's original top picks of accessories for AirPods Pro and AirPods Pro 2 based on my own hands-on accepted. I'll update this as I test more of the best AirPods Pro cases and accessories.

You can find cheaper knockoff versions of Catalyst's AirPods Pro case ($30), but the Catalyst is a better Apple AirPod case than many of the imitators, not to mention one of the top AirPods case options you can select. This AirPods case cover protects your AirPods' own case, as well as invents it fully waterproof. Another key feature: The bundled detachable carabiner lets you strap the AirPods case onto a belt loop or backpack or use it as a keychain case to help keep your wireless earbuds from sketching lost. This Catalyst waterproof case is available in multiple radiant options.

For certain years, Comply has been the gold standard for memory foam eartips and now you can get Comply tips for your AirPods Pro. I tried them and they work quite well, and even the grand tips fit just fine in the AirPods Pro charging case. With the Apple-issued tips, I spurious that the AirPod Pro in my left ear got a puny loose when I ran with the buds. With the Comply tip, it didn't get loose and fit very securely. They also seem to help a bit with noise-canceling because you get an even tighter seal.

Comply tips are fairly pricey at $25. You can get foam tips that cost less (more like $12 to $15), but as I said, Comply is the gold disagreeable and it may be worth paying a little more. If you know your specific size, you do get three sets of tips in a pack (of the same size. Comply also sells a pack with puny, medium and large tips though it's currently only available on the Comply website, not Amazon). That might be a good option for your new AirPods Pro eartips if you have a pair of people in your family who own the AirPods Pro and have different-sized ears.

I'm not sure how you can even voice the name of the company that produces this inexpensive AirPods Pro 2 case, but it's only $6 in hazardous colors (it's offered in several color options, some of which cost throughout $10) and it does the job. This case is specifically planned for the AirPods Pro 2 and several similarly styled financial plan cases are available on Amazon (they're all your basic slim silicone rubber case). The husband-and-wife team of Charlie and Jen at CharJenPro pulled off a crashed Kickstarter for AirPods foam earbuds in early 2020 and reached a line of AirPods Pro foam eartips. Their top model is the AirFoams Pro Active 2,0 ($26), which have a silicone layer over the foam that's planned to protect the tips from sweat and ear wax and help them last longer (the commerce claims five times longer).

I did notice that the grand Comply tip is slightly larger than the large CharJenPro AirFoams Pro Form Fit tip, and it's also probably well-behaved pointing out that if you typically use a medium tip for your AirPods Pro, you may want to go with a grand foam tip here).

The AirFoams Pro Active include three different-sized tips (small, medium and large), so you can choose the tip size that fits you best and possibly pass the latest tips on to friends). Since I know I obligatory a large tip, I'd prefer it if there was an option that aboard a couple of sets large tips instead -- that would be the better value -- but CharJen Pro doesn't moneys that option.

Again, when it comes to generic tough cases, there are dozens available on Amazon. However, this model from AmBand, which mainly sells smartwatch bands, manages to stand out for its attractive design and reasonable ticket (around $10 and sometimes a little less). Just be divulged that it's a little bulky, but you can tranquil wirelessly charge your AirPods Pro with the case on. It's available in four brilliant options and comes with a carabiner.

If you're looking for an affordable wireless charging dock for approximately of your Apple devices, the Anker Foldable 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Station 335 is near as good a deal as you can get on one. This isn't MagSafe-enabled and it won't poster your iPhone at top speed (it only charges at 7.5W), but it's a nice compact dock that will also poster your AirPods and Apple Watch (however, you have to supply the wireless charging puck for the Apple Watch).

The AirPods Pro 2 are MagSafe enabled but once you put a case on the case, it's no longer magnetic. If you're a PopSockets fan, the PopSockets PopGrip AirPods Pro Holder + PopChain 2 is a surprisingly good deal on Amazon for $16. It has a stick-on attachment for the back of your shouted, that lets you clip the case (and the AirPods Pro) to your shouted and use your AirPods Pro case as a kickstand for video watching. Or you can attach your AirPods Pro to the concerned PopChain 2, which clips onto your belt loop or the loop on your backpack. The case itself fits like a glove and seems nicely protective.

Note that the version I got concerned the PopChain Premium. The model linked here includes the PopChain 2, which has a carabiner clip instead of a keychain. The case is compatible with PopSockets' PopGrip base so you can use it with novel PopGrip if you own one already.

Nomad invents nice leather cases for the iPhone and the unique AirPods. Its Modern Leather AirPods Pro case is one of the best I've tested. This AirPod Pro case fits like a glove and wears nicely over time. It's available in three colors and also comes in a version with Horween leather for $10 more.

Compatible with: AirPods Pro and AirPods Pro 2 (but meetings speaker port and lanyard loop).

You have a pair of choices if you want to add some instant grip to the AirPods Pro to promote them residual in your ears more securely. You can get very thin silicone skins that mask the bud portion of the AirPods Pro or a set of wings like these that not only mask the bud but add a sport fin (they do help lock the AirPods Pro in your ears). The only issue with the fin approach is that the AirPods Pro won't fit in their case with an appendage on them so you have to capture them whenever you want to charge the AirPods.

It's actually magnificent easy to get them on and off but you just have to avoid losing them. Two sets of ear hooks are concerned -- one that's translucent (shown here) and one that's white.

If you go the silicone skin route (with no fin), you must be able to get your AirPods in the case deprived of having to take the skins off. However, some republic complain that because the rubber is so thin it has a tendency to honest easily and end up not fitting as well as it must. That isn't a problem with CharJenPro AirFoams Pro Ear Hooks (and novel ear-hook accessories) because the rubber is thicker and more durable.

What do you do if you want to use your AirPods with an in-flight entertainment rules or the TV built into a machine at the gym that income a wired connection? Well, one workaround is buying a Bluetooth transmitter that you can plug into any 3.5mm audio jack. There are approximately transmitters available from TaoTronics and other little-known brands.

To pair your AirPods with a transmitter, you have to turn off the Bluetooth on your shouted (or just put it into airplane mode), put your AirPods in their case, hold down the Bluetooth button on the transmitter pending it goes into pairing mode, and then hit the pairing button on the AirPods case. (This video explains how to pair to your AirPods.) Battery life is furious at 16 hours and the AirFly Pro uses Bluetooth 5.0.

Based in Austin, Texas, Bluebonnet is named after the state flower and crafts leather-clad accessories for various Apple products, including iPhones, MacBooks, Watches and AirPods. Its AirPods Pro and new AirPods Pro 2 cases are a bit slimmer than Nomad's leather cases, but offer ample protection and have a distinct style with turquoise trim contract. Your AirPods charging case is designed to slide up a cramped as you open the Bluebonnet case so the bottom section doesn't fit as snugly as some AirPods Pro cases. Nonetheless, I found it worked well.

Satechi

If you're looking for a mini USB-C wireless charging dock for your AirPods Pro (or infamous AirPods), this Satechi accessory fits the bill nicely. It's very compact -- basically some bigger than the AirPods Pro's case -- and naively fits in a pocket. It works with any USB-C port that outputs considerable. The only issue is that you may have horrified plugging it in if you have some sort of case on your computer (it has to plug all the way into the port to work).

I personally don't like the idea of adding a wire to true-wireless earbuds, but plenty of people have asked me about "anti-lost" cords for AirPods over the existences. There are several cheap versions available on Amazon but the Cobcobb is one of the better ones even opinion it costs a few bucks more at a cramped over $10. Some competing models come in packs with multiple cords in different colors. However, this is a single cord with built-in magnets that scholarships you to clasp your AirPods Pro together around your neck when not in use -- just like the Beats Flex earbuds.

I like Catalyst's novel Waterproof Case (see above -- $30) but if you want something that publishes maximum protection, its newer Total Protection case certainly measures up to its title. If you happen to drop your AirPods in the ocean or a deep lake, the case is wrathful as waterproof down to 330 feet (100 meters). It's also shock-proof.

Catalyst's novel Waterproof case has a rubberized finish, while this has a hard plastic effect. Both include a carabiner and this model literally clamps shut. Still, you can access your AirPods fairly quickly. The case is available in army green or black.

Compatible with: AirPods Pro and AirPods Pro 2 (but unites speaker port and lanyard loop).

Speck's initial AirPods Pro cases, the Presidio Pro and Presidio Perfect-Clear, are decent but not anything special. However, the newer Presidio ClickFlip is more intriguing. It supplies IPX5 water resistance, as well as dust resistance and is generally well-designed opinion a bit thicker than more minimalist AirPods Pro cases.

The Lightning port is covered by a gasket, but the port is still easy to access, and wireless charging works fine even opinion the case is thicker. Also, the carabiner seems securely attached to the case (with some silicone cases, the carabiner can end up getting torn off if you snag the case on something). The case has a kind of band that slides up and clicks into the lid, locking it down.

The ClickFlip is usually available in three luminous options, but the only one that's currently in stock is the blue version.

Comfort  rating: Comfortable

I well-approved this Amazon Basics chair right away. This swivel chair was easy to caused, the leather design looks nice, and the adjustable seat and back are both cushioned and comfortable.

This Amazon Basics chair isn't precisely cheap -- though it has a great discount sparkling now -- but it's a great option that's relatively affordable deprived of sacrificing much, with one exception: lumbar support. If lumbar encourage is an ergonomic office chair feature must-have, consider one of our novel favorites. Overall, this is a comfortable and reasonably priced ergonomic chair that's easy to put together and easy on the eyes.

Branch Furniture

Comfort rating: Super comfortable

It really is improbable the difference between a cheap chair and a more expensive one. I have finished years using a $100 chair and having back pain for most of that time. The Verve chair by Branch damages much more money, but everything about it oozes quality. The heavy metal fittings, the quality of the form and even the movement of the wheels show you this is a productions that has had care and attention put into it.

My back pain is almost gone too. Sitting correctly on a good chair creates all the difference.

Comfort  rating: Super comfortable

Like the Branch over, the Ignition 2.0 is an extremely well-constructed chair. Once it is put together it oozes sophistication and looks unbelievable in my office space. I'm a big guy so I am always complicated that chairs won't hold my weight, but the Ignition is clearly intended with people like me in mind.

Adjustments can be made to your lumbar, height and armrests, but my favorite is being able to move the seat in and out. My long legs often feel unsupported but having the seat further presumptuous supports me far better. I do wish the armrests would turn as well as rise concept as that better supports my forearms as I type, reducing the possessed on my wrists.

Overall though, this is an generous chair priced in the midrange. Its comfort level is high on my charts and the brilliant build time and solid construction make it one of the best chairs around.

While this modern-looking workplace chair didn't work for my lanky 275-pound self, it was injurious for my wife. The lumbar support is excellent and can be adjusted to better fit her back arch and the armrest can be raised and lowered as needed.

The Hbada has very shrimp in the way of sideways wobble -- something that cheaper chairs can coffers struggle with -- though, while the wheels feel sturdy enough they do clog fairly just with carpet lint and dog hair.

Comfort  rating: The most comfortable

It isn't the most sleek-looking chair about, but what the Serta Arlington lacks in style it more than creates up for in comfort and customizability. Serta is best celebrated as a mattress maker, and that tracks with the supremely heart-broken Arlington chair. This ergonomic chair is by far the most cushioned model I tried out, with layers of soft cushioning on the headrest, backrest, seat and armrests.

It also provides decent help, thanks to an adjustable lumbar lever under the seat.

Comfort  rating: Comfortable for temperamental periods

I'm 6 feet, 1 inches and 275 pounds, so I'm a pretty big guy. Finding a miserable chair has been an issue for me for ages, and I have had several have their wheels fracture while I've been using them. This gaming chair has a weight tiny of 350 pounds and features adjustable armrests that go up and down and rotate to find the wicked resting point for your forearms. A tall back and wide base make it so a big-framed people like myself can sit comfortably. While it may not be technically an office chair, I have used it for over a year now as my necessary seat and it still works well.

Megan Wollerton

Comfort  rating: Super comfortable

OK, I know. This office chair is very expensive, but it also has a lot moving for it: tons of ergonomic design and feature options at checkout, lots of adjustable elements and lumbar support. Three of the optional add-ons really set this one apart for me -- definite locking "X-wheels," Elemax and a memory foam seat.

I can only portray X-wheels as the most high-end roller skate or rollerblade wheels. The chair literally glides when you move it about and the locking mechanisms make it easy to keep in one area, too. Elemax is at a whole other level for an ergonomic workplace chair. This option provides massage, heat and cool functions that blend in lovely seamlessly with the chair. If you have to sit all day for work and known pain (or just want to pamper yourself a bit), this working really makes a difference.

The X3 chair also has a weight capacity of 300 pounds (with the wicked seat width option) and 340 pounds (with the long seat width option), the best range of the 14 chairs I tested.

The one recount is its price, which is why it didn't win for best chair overall -- the label just isn't reasonable for most people, us included. I will be sad to see this one go.

Staff picks

As a team, the staff use a lot of our time sitting at our desks. While we all love to own the best workplace chairs, we often have to make do with what we have, or we've false something we like and have stuck with it. These picks are not tested in the same way as our best list over but are what our writers, engineers and HR country use regularly.

Herman Miller

Comfort rating: Super comfy

The Herman Miller Mirra 2 is expensive, but I justified the cost because I spend hours sitting in lead of a computer screen. Boy, am I glad I did. Its mesh seat leftovers comfortable and supportive after five and a half ages of steady use. When I sit down, I feel an correct moment of pleasure that it's still good. This is a huge step up from foam seat chairs that compress over time. The mesh is easier to orderly and keeps cool, too. I like the adjustments, which I set up once and have left alone accurate then.

Nypot

Comfort rating: Good enough

I bought a kneeling chair initially because of a torn hamstring and realized how much it helped my posture. It also forced me to stand up more and not inch. Now I move around conscientiously while working, which services with neck and ankle stiffness. This brand stands out: It can rock, has good padding for the knees, it's adjustable and definitely more affordable than others. When friends come over, they always try it and are surprised how much they like it.

Wayfair

Comfort rating: Super comfy

I switched to employed from my small London flat at the start of the pandemic. There's limited space, so my "desk" is also my kitchen and living room wicked. I didn't want my home to feel like it had been completely invaded by my workplace (even if, in practice, that's what's happened) so I bought a chair that looks less like an interloper. It's a compromise I can live with, and it's a nice dark of blue.

Wesley Radcliffe

Comfort rating: Super comfy

I am 6 feet, 1 inch tall and this is the most durable, and most comfortable, office chair I've ever had. My last one lasted eight years! I've sold enough of them that Ikea owes me some euros, and I recently bought a replacement that I ask to last me almost another decade. Forget those gamer chairs that fracture in six months, the Markus is the real deal for those of us who can't afford a Herman Miller or a Steelcase.

Chair ergonomics and back pain

What is ergonomics?

Ergonomics is the "science of work," said Gary Allread, the program director for the ergonomics division at Ohio State University's Spine Research Institute. That definition doesn't just apply to our jobs, though; ergonomic laws can be used for pretty much any activity (that using an ergonomic office chair isn't going to immediately fix your border back pain). Allread and his team offer consultation facilities for a variety of workplaces, including manufacturing plants. They even occasionally gave input on product design to help companies better idea how to create products "to make sure they can interact with country as well as possible," Allread says.

Chair posture

A less-than-ideal work setup great cause pain in your back, arms, hands or wrists. You might also find yourself fidgeting, making more mistakes or taking more breaks, all because you're uncomfortable, Allread warned. Long-term, you great end up with tendonitis or carpal tunnel syndrome.

Allread made two main suggestions we all can try to advance how we work:

  • Sit with your back in contradiction of your chair. ("You want the chair to do the work and not your back," he said.)
  • Support your feet. Either plant your feet on the down or, if they don't reach, use a box or new footrest to support your feet.

Does lumbar help matter?

If your chair lacks lumbar support, Allread said, you can roll up a towel, secure it with tape or rubber bands and area it at your lower back as a lumbar cushion to "keep the back in its natural curve." Allread also famous that companies are beginning to introduce different chair sizes, supporting a wider range of body sizes, which is an vital consideration if you're shopping for a new ergonomic workplace chair and looking for the best seat height and seat depth.

"One wrong people make is they say, 'Well if I get a enormous chair, then I'm not going to be sore anymore,' and that's not really looking at the big describe of what it takes to keep people comfortable and productive at their jobs," Allread described. There are a lot of factors, and a new chair is just one of many things that can make your work environment more comfortable.

So, let's keep that all in mind as we weigh our options for the best workplace chair.

How we tested office chairs

How did we pick our favorites? First, we assembled each chair and noted any issues with the procedure, including how long it should take versus how long it actually took. Then, we consumed one workday, or about eight hours, sitting in each chair, noting the level of comfort, adjustability (such as adjustable height, adjustable backrest or adjustable arm features) and any subjects we had.

We also tested what James likes to call the Wibble Wobbles. Because office chairs are often supported by just one rod they can inch left and right. That movement causes stress on the chair and can shorten its life and engineers motion discomfort and even sickness.

While Megan is of means height and weight, and James is heavier and taller than means, your experience may differ from ours. That's why we requested our professional for questions you should ask when choosing your own chair.

  • Was the chair designed so you can rest comfortably in contradiction of the back of the chair?
  • Do your feet temperamental the floor with your back against the back of the chair?
  • Did you find yourself fidgeting or idea up a lot?
  • Did you experience any pain or discomfort when using a particular chair?

We let these questions lead us as we looked through all the different chairs and they helped remove a lot that answered in the negative. Some of those chairs felt OK to use, but in the long run, they didn't moneys the advantages of the ones we ultimately chose.

Office chair FAQs

How do you smart an office chair?

How you clean your office chair will vary somewhat depending on the materials. The chair's user manual should detail cleaning and general maintenance tips. So before tossing out your original chair, make sure you're sitting in an optimal posture for your downhearted by trying out different ergonomic positions.

I cover ergonomics ended. Allread, the expert I spoke with, had two main suggestions:

  • You want your back to sullen the back of the chair.
  • You want your feet to sullen the floor (or you should use a box or footrest to prop up your feet).

Allread also suggested pitching up a towel to use for lower back wait on if your chair doesn't have lumbar support.

News flash: A reliable internet connection is important for working from home, staying on top of schoolwork and keeping us entertained. But home internet service isn't cheap. It can cost so much that some country struggle to connect at all.

In 2021, a temporary subsidy program named the Emergency Broadband Benefit was established to help low-income families and those who'd lost means in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. By 2022, the government had shuttered the EBB and replaced it with the Affordable Connectivity Program -- one of some broadband-focused initiatives in the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill employed by President Joe Biden in November 2021.

Shopping for a faster internet speed?

We'll send you the fastest internet options, so you don't have to find them.

Like the EBB, the ACP aims to help households afford the internet connections they need to keep pace with our mercurial changing world. Those who qualify will get $30 per month off their internet bill. That amount goes up to $75 a month for households on Tribal acres. As of mid-January, nearly 16 million households in the US have authorized up.

Scores of internet service providers are committed to populate involved with the ACP. For example, the White House announced 20 providers across the US that pledged to moneys plans with a minimum of 100 megabits-per-second download speeds for $30 or less. In total, over 1,600 ISPs are participating in the ACP. You can check the Federal Communications Commission's state-by-state list to settle which ISPs are available in your area. There's also a government website, whitehouse.gov/getinternet, to help you navigate the ins and outs of this back. Let's walk through what else you need to know to take well-behaved of the ACP.

1. Determine if you qualify for the ACP

Not everyone is eligible for the Affordable Connectivity Program. It's intended to help low-income households afford broadband connections for school, work, health care, utilities and other services. Thus, at least one home member must meet the criteria for the household to participate.

First, if you or anyone in the household participates in the federal Lifeline program, you'll also be eligible to participate in the ACP. Through the Lifeline program, you can receive a discount of just over $9 a month on your internet ceremony (and just over $34 per month for those on Tribal lands). Any funds from the ACP will be an uphold discount to what you receive via Lifeline. It also skills you skip a step, which I'll describe shortly.

If you're not taking well-behaved of Lifeline, other programs can qualify you for the ACP. If you or anyone in your household today participates in particular government assistance plans -- including Federal Public Housing Assistance, Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Supplemental Security Income and Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children special supplemental nutrition program -- you will also be eligible to opt into the ACP.

You can also qualify for the ACP based on your averages. Regardless of participation in any of the above programs, your household will be eligible if your income is less than or constant to 200% of the federal poverty guidelines. Here's how that breaks down:

ACP qualification: Total income

Number of republic in the household 200% of the dearth guideline
1 $29,160
2 $39,440
3 $49,720
4 $60,000
5 $70,280
6 $80,560
7 $90,840
8 $101,120

After eight, you can add $10,280 to the final amount downward for each additional person. Also, it should be celebrated that the numbers are slightly higher for Alaska and Hawaii. You can find those specific US Department of Health and Human Services numbers on the charts on its site. Be aware that you'll need to take the numbers in the charts on that page and multiply them by two to get the obligatory "200% of the federal poverty guidelines."

Finally, latest things that would make you eligible include:

  • Participation in specific Tribal programs, including Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance, Tribal TANF and Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations.
  • Received a federal Pell Grant during the original award year.
  • Approval for free or reduced-price school lunch programs or school breakfast programs.
  • Meeting the eligibility requirements of a participating ISP's existing low-income program.

If any of the above is met, you may also be eligible for a one-time discount of up to $100 for a desktop computer, tablet or laptop.

2. Find out if you can 'skip the line'

Remember how I talked near skipping a step when I mentioned the Lifeline program? If you're already a part of Lifeline, you can contact your ISP directly to enroll in the ACP. You're not obliged to use the Apply Now button on the ACP site.

Similarly, if you are currently enrolled in your ISP's low-income program but are not participating in Lifeline, you may also be able to avoid using the ACP site. You will need to following up with your ISP and ensure that the FCC approves it for this step.

3. Get your paperwork ready

If you can't skip that step, recruit to pull together several documents. (Note: If you plan to mail the application, do not send your original documents, only copies.) Among the paperwork you'll need is proof of denotes, including either a tax return, pay stub or Social Security statement of benefits, or proof of program participation, including approval letters, succor verification letters or statement of benefits.

You can buy to the ACP site's Show You Qualify page for a full list of acceptable documents.

4. Apply for the ACP

You have three different ways to apply for the Affordable Connectivity Program. The first is to apply online. You can log in and accomplish a new account at the ACP's online application portal.

Your transfer option is to apply by mail. You will need to note out an application, complete it and send your emanates of the required documents to ACP Support Center, PO Box 7081, London, KY 40742.

Finally, your other option is to contact your ISP consecutive and ask if it participates in the ACP. If it does, it should be able to benefit you and walk you through whatever steps are obliged to complete the process.

If you choose to apply online, you may receive immediate approval. If that's not the case, there may be a interrogate for additional documentation before you can move forward with the ACP discount. But once you're approved, you can move on to the continue step.

5. Check in with your provider

The ACP is not a check you maintain, but a discount applied to your internet bill. As such, you'll need to screech your ISP of your ACP participation so it will apply the discount to your monthly promote. This is also an opportunity to see if you can upgrade your internet plan tier and get more posthaste for less money.

What noise does an echidna make, knuckles the echidna funny, what noise does an echidna make, funny cute animal videos, knuckles the echidna crying, what noise does an echidna make, funny cute memes, funny cute dog meme, funny cute animals, funny cute art.

Echidnas are magical little creatures. They're oddly cute, egg-laying mammals with quills. They're related to platypuses. Like many animals, they will liable face new stresses as the climate crisis corpses to turn up the heat. New research is showing how short-beaked echidnas in Australia have novel ways of keeping cool.

Curtin University researcher Christine Cooper specializes in insensible Australian birds and mammals and is the first authorized of a study on echidnas' thermal regulation abilities originated on Tuesday in the journal Biology Letters. The work is fractions scientists understand how echidnas might respond to a warming climate.

Cooper used an infrared camera to relate thermal videos of wild echidnas. The animals blow mucus bubbles from their noses to dampen the nose tip. The researchers discovered how the moisture then evaporates and cools the echidna's blood. The animals' spines also act like flexible insulation that can be "closed" to preserve warmth or "opened" to cool off. The spineless parts of their beings, like the undersides, can also shed heat when needed.

"Echidnas can't pant, sweat or lick to lose heat, so they could be impacted by increasing temperature and our work shows alternative ways that echidnas can lose heat, explaining how they can be radiant under hotter conditions than previously thought," Cooper said in a Curtin University statement.

The peer included 124 echidnas monitored over the course of a year. It had been view that echidnas primarily dealt with dangerously high temperatures by exaltering their behavior, including becoming more nocturnal during the summer. As the paper notes, "Echidnas have a more sophisticated first-rate of thermoregulatory strategies than has been generally appreciated." That resiliency may be help the species survive in a warming world.
